Tasting notes
Seeing a full 48 months in oak, the 2006 Alchemist 48, a blend of 85% Syrah and 15% Cabernet, sports stunningly deep, rich aromatics of crème de cassis, graphite, smoke and vanilla. These lead into a medium to full bodied wine with loads of texture, beautifully ripe fruit, and a long, classy finish that’s lengthened by ripe, fine grained tannin. Beautiful stuff and I would drink bottles over the next 4 to 6 years.

The 2006 Alchemist, a blend of 85% Syrah and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, has put on weight and depth. It is a powerful, big, full-bodied wine exhibiting a dense ruby/purple color as well as copious quantities of roasted coffee, creme de cassis, melted licorice, and chocolaty notes. Seriously-endowed with a big upside, it should keep for 10-12 years. Booker Vineyard, a 40-acre vineyard planted on limestone soils just west of Highway 101, continues to strut its stuff after its impressive debut in 2005. I retasted several of the 2006s I had last year, and the ratings were slightly elevated. Tel. (805) 237-7367; Fax (805) 237-7368
(85% syrah and 15% cabernet sauvignon) Inky ruby. Bright cherry and dark berry aromas, with a suave floral note adding interest. Spicy, finely etched raspberry and blueberry flavors are firmed by dusty, building tannins and turn sweeter on the impressively deep and persistent back end. I'd give this a couple more years to unwind.
