The 2018 Graacher Domprobst Riesling Auslese *** is precise and flinty as well as concentrated on the refreshing, fascinating nose. Round and piquant on the palate, with great finesse and salinity, this is a piquant and concentrated, juicy and sweet Domprobst with grip and prominent sweetness. Surprisingly fresh and piquant for 2018. Tasted at the domain in September 2020.

Verbena-laced apple and white grapefruit on the nose project both candied and fresh aspects, setting the stage for a palate performance whose zest and penetrating brightness come as a surprise in the context of this vintage and collection. And yet, there is simultaneously an alluring (as well as more predictable) hint of textural creaminess. The long finish is tongue-tingling yet persistently rich in its evocation of apple and quince jellies.
Lots of dried flowers here, such as honeysuckle, apple and cherry blossom, vanillin and jasmine. Full-bodied and sweet, but with tongue-twisting purity and acidity bite. Racy and refined, yet domineering and powerful. Drink now.
The 2018 Graacher Domprobst Riesling Auslese opens flinty, cool and precise on the bright and intensely scented nose, showing no signs of botrytis but super bright and healthy fruit intertwined with flinty-spicy slate aromas. Lush and round but also racy and piquant on the clear and super precise palate, this is a highly attractive and digestible Auslese with a crystalline, stimulatingly salty and frisky finish with grip and tension.
