(for 375 ml.) Distilled yellow plum and cherry aromas. Lightly bitter cherry and plum pit flavors and fruit skin accents offer counterpoint to the honeyed sweetness. An undertone of bitter chocolate-covered orange rind and plum runs through the long, intriguing finish. This is as striking as it is unlike any other Sonnenuhr Riesling in my experience. Potential 2 stars.

The 2003 Riesling Beerenauslese Zeltinger Sonnenuhr sports a nose of spiced and honeyed minerals as well as a sweet, immensely rich core of botrytis-laced fruit. Medium to full-bodied, its intense flavor profile is packed with pepper, smoke, apricots, honey, slate, as well as notes of jammy red currants. Revealing exceptional harmony and a long finish brimming with fruit, this is a candidate for drinking between 2008 and 2035+.
