Score 96/100 · Drink 2023-2033, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, May 2023
The 1980 Brunello di Montalcino is another shockingly great wine. Dark, ample and quite tannic—especially for a wine of its age—the 1980 is so impressive. It is virile and imposing at the outset, then starts to show compelling inner perfume. Leather, incense and pipe tobacco meld into the resonant, sustained finish. This is my first time tasting the 1980. What a terrific surprise.

About the producer

Soldera
Soldera is one of the most highly rated, fiercely collected wines of Italy. The winery is based in the Brunello di Montalcino, however the estate is no longer labelled as a Brunello, following a fall out with the consortium. Made from 100% Sangiovese, the wine is currently bottled as a Toscana IGT.
