2004 Chambertin Clos de Beze

Good full red. Dark cherry and flowers on the pure nose, lifted by a peppery nuance. The fullest and sweetest of these 2004s today, with rich, perfumed, mouthcoating flavors of redcurrant and rose petal. Finishes very long and aromatic, mostly avoiding the dryness shown by other '04s at this address. This is very easy to taste today.

Good full red. Complex, understated aromas of dark berries, bitter chocolate, smoke and minerals. Silky, suave and fine, with perfectly integrated acidity. This mounts slowly and impressively, finishing with excellent cut and very fine tannins. Shows a texture completely different from the samples that preceded it.

Cask sample. Mid grey-crimson. Not immediately obviously grand cru level. A bit lean and chewy. Pretty sinewy. Awfully dry finish. (JR)
