Tasting notes
The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers 1er Cru has an attractive bouquet. This is some clever use of whole bunches. Black pepper mixes with red berry fruit and briar. There's fine delineation, and it becomes more floral with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins. This is a structured Cazetiers, linear in style, conservative perhaps, but there is a class here, and I appreciate its aloofness. Maybe a little dry on the finish? It just needs to loosen its tie, but there's real class here. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

Cask sample. Light café au lait nose. But very good attack on the palate with sound, dry-but-not-drying impact on the palate. Quite ambitious. (JR)
The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers 1er Cru has a peppery nose, clove and white pepper, quite open and expressive with rose petal notes emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with mulberry and raspberry fruit, good body here, a little sinew and grip on the finish. A keeper.
