Tasting notes
Bright medium red. Red fruits and strong oak tones on the nose. Juicy, sweet and energetic; not a fat style but penetrating and taut, with fresh red berry flavors lingering nicely on the bracing finish. Cathiard noted at this point in our tasting that the pHs in 2012 are in the 3.35 to 3.45 range, or roughly the same as those of 2010.

Black fruit, new leather, smoke and scorched earth burst from the glass in Cathiard's 2012 Nuits St. Georges. A deep, muscular wine, the 2012 impresses for its focus and compelling overall balance. I very much like the sense of energy, but imagine the 2012 will benefit from at least a few years in bottle. This is classic Nuits in its structure and energy.
Two-thirds new oak but moved to a one-year-old cask after racking. A small parcel in Aux Athées lieu-dit north of Nuits. Very perfumed and fine boned. Drier than most of their wines. Very digestible. But it definitely needs food. Quite racy and elegant. (JR)
