The 2017 Chambertin Grand Cru has a pastille-like purity on the nose of wild strawberry, red currant, rose petals and a touch of sous-bois . A hint of star anise develops in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with tart red cherries, clementine and a touch of curry leaf and sous-bois . This shows impressive complexity on the linear, focused, impressively persistent finish. The 2017 Chambertin Grand Cru was showing a touch of VA on the nose when I tasted it. The palate is sweet and chewy; however, I feel that this bottle was not representative.
About the producer
Although the Bichot family settled in the region in 1350, Albert Bichot was founded in 1831 by Bernard Bichot. Today the producer is one of Burgundy’s most respected, making wines from both its own vineyards and with purchased fruit.
