(two-thirds from Carougeot, the rest from the premier cru Bel-Air and Fontenys outside the clos ): Medium red. Strawberry, minerals and spices on the nose; slightly rustic in a positive Gevrey way. Then juicy and on the lean side, with red berry, spice and earth flavors dominating. Not bad but a bit dry, with its medicinal aspect suggesting only moderate ripeness. Less intense than most of Clair's young 2015s.

A blend of three parcels as usual, the 2015 Gevrey-Chambertin Village offers tightly wound, tertiary scents on the nose, something almost autumnal at the moment about this wine. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin, quite vibrant red cherry and strawberry fruit with a twist of orange rind on the finish. There is a touch of white pepper lingering on the aftertaste that completes this village cru that I feel has more potential than some of its peers.
A completely different aromatic profile is present here with its much earthier and more sauvage array of red and dark berry fruit and forest floor-suffused nose. The sleek medium weight flavors possess an interesting satin-textured mid-palate that contrasts considerably with the firm and mildly rustic finale that delivers outstanding depth and persistence for a villages level Gevrey.
