Tasting notes
Cask sample. 17 months in oak, 40% new. Mid to deep cherry. Glorious delicately herbal freshness added to the intensity of pure red fruit. With the merest hint of pepper and spice and the oak swallowed by the fruit. A fine combination of upright structure and sufficient flesh for great shape. Great balance and real refinement. (JH)

The 2015 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru has a rounded and opulent bouquet with "billowing" redcurrant and crushed strawberry scents, just a touch of sous-bois tucked in underneath. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, quite tensile in the mouth and surprisingly linear towards the finish when you expected it to fan out. Perhaps it just needs time to flex its muscles. Give this 3-4 years in bottle.
(from Charmes proper). Much more moderate but again, not invisible oak serves as a backdrop for the liqueur-like red berry fruit, earth and softly animale-scented nose. The sleek and seductively textured medium weight flavors possess an underlying muscularity though the abundant sap does a fine job of buffering the moderately firm tannic spine on the sneaky long finale. About the producer

Although the Bichot family settled in the region in 1350, Albert Bichot was founded in 1831 by Bernard Bichot. Today the producer is one of Burgundy’s most respected, making wines from both its own vineyards and with purchased fruit.
