The 2011 Chambolle-Musigny Les Fuées 1er Cru feels sultry on the nose at first: broody, cedar-tinged black fruit, touches of black truffle and smoke. Despite a lack of vigor the aromas keep you engaged. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, clean and pure on the entry but I find the second half just loses concentration and the finish feels monotone and denuded of terroir expression. It starts so well and just loses momentum in the final third. Tasted at Flint Wines Burgundy 2011 tasting.

(25% vendange entier): Bright red. Highly perfumed nose offers dried rose, orange zest, ginger and dusty stone. Powerful and penetrating but with a light touch and superb precision to its red fruit, floral and mineral flavors. Lovely energy and tensile strength here: I like the stem influence. (Unfortunately, Faiveley's Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses was too reduced to assess in November.)

A beautifully complex, pure and elegant nose features notes of red and blue pinot fruit, stone and floral hints. There is a lovely sophistication to the mouth feel of the intensely mineral-inflected medium-bodied flavors that also possess wonderfully silky tannins though the natural firmness of a fine Fuées makes its presence known on the gorgeously subtle and persistent finish. This is terrific. Tasted: Jan 14, 2013. Drink: 2019+
