Score 90/100 · Drink 1992-2004, Robert Parker, Oct 1992

I am willing to wager that in a blind tasting against 90% of the premiers crus and grands crus of Gevrey-Chambertin, Robert Jayer's 1990 Cote de Nuits-Villages would easily rank in the top 10%. The saturated black/purple color has more in common with a top Bordeaux than Burgundy. The nose offers up intense black-cherry, herb, and sweet oaky aromas. In the mouth, this wine reveals super-richness, medium to full body, wonderful purity and clarity, and a long, soft, tannic finish. Drink it over the next 10-12 years. One of the stars of Burgundy, Robert Jayer has begun the decade of the nineties with what appear to be the finest wines he has ever made. No one makes better Hautes Cotes de Nuits and Cote de Nuits-Villages than Jayer. As the numbers attest, these are thrilling, even amazing wines. Importer: Robert Kacher Selections, Washington, DC.
