Tasting notes
Bloody red and blue fruits, lavender, game, iron, and pepper are just some of the nuances found in the 2022 Authenticity. It's full-bodied, deep, rich, and opulent on the palate, with velvety tannins, a focused, layered mouthfeel, and a blockbuster finish. Made from 100% Syrah and aged 18 months in French oak barrels and puncheons (49% new), it's another killer Syrah from this brilliant winemaker. Drink 2025-2035. Winemaker Jordan Fiorentini continues to keep Epoch Estate at the top of the hierarchy in Paso Robles. She makes a bevy of wines, all of which are from their estate Paderewski, Catapult, and York Mountain vineyards. While the 2022s clearly rank with the top wines of the vintage, I think her 2023s might be even better. Readers can’t go wrong with any of these, and Jordan’s wines always shine for their purity, vibrancy, and balance while staying true to Paso Robles with ripe, sexy levels of fruit.

The 2022 Authenticity is dark and brooding, offering a savory mix of dusty blackcurrants, crushed stones and dried citrus peels on the nose. The palate is soothingly round, with vividly ripe wild berry fruit and crunchy mineral tones that add gravitas. Zesty and remarkably fresh, it leaves the palate watering for more as a balsamic resonance fades over a tinge of licorice.
