Score 93/100 · Drink 2020-2030, Jeb Dunnuck, Jan 2020
Based on 91% Syrah and 9% Viognier, the 2017 Syrah Field Book offers a more focused, elegant style as well as a slightly less exotic character. Red and black fruits, ground pepper, hints of game, and subtle bacon fat notes all flow to a medium to full-bodied Syrah that has a beautiful sense of balance and purity, fine tannins, and a great finish. Give it another year and it will keep for a decade.

About the producer

Spottswoode
Spottswoode is one of those rare Napa estates whose reputation rests less on volume or spectacle than on persistent exactitude. Set on the western edge of St Helena, where the Mayacamas rise and afternoon breezes temper the valley’s warmth, the vineyard occupies a favoured pocket of the appellation.
