Tasting notes
The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Champeaux 1er Cru was showing quite a smack of reduction on the nose that made it difficult to read. The palate is rounded and fleshy on the entry, dark berry fruit laced with white pepper, clove and a touch of marjoram. Maybe this cuvée is just a little too confit on the finish for my taste, so I will be prudent with my score for now.

Less exposed than Cherbaudes and on flatter ground. Tank sample. Bigger, expressive nose. Aromatic and quite the firecracker. Richer, deeper fruit. Savoury – a touch ferrous? Almost animal. Intense. (MH)
