The 2013 Brauneberger Juffer Riesling Spätlese is a delicate, yet well-concentrated and lovely sweet (65 grams residual sugar per liter), but also piquant Riesling, with finesse, terroir character and noblesse.

Thomas Haag has never been one for the Mosel light approach, and the Juffer Sonnenuhr with its compact mineral core demonstrates his preference of provenance over fruit basket. Nevertheless the Spätlese does a nice side line in citrus fruit, zesty orange and juicy grapefruit lending a refreshing momentum to the relative austerity of flinty and salty minerality. A fine herbal notion adds interest and there is a promise of complexity in the making. (MS)
