Tasting notes
Bright red-ruby. Compellingly ripe, perfumed nose combines black raspberry, crushed rock, spices and flowers. Plush, sweet and deep; wonderfully creamy but with electric crushed-stone energy and salinity to its very primary fresh cherry and raspberry fruit flavors. In its sheer sappiness and floral lift, this wine transcends its vintage. Really stains the palate and stimulates the taste buds on the superb building finish. An outstanding premier cru.

(Laurent's wine from the upper section of the vineyard is from vines planted in 1959; he describes his wine from the bottom of the cru as "from very old vines"): Bright ruby-red. Vibrant scents of crushed tart cherry, raspberry, flowers and spices. Wonderfully fine-grained and seamless in spite of its crushed-rock pungency, this beauty offers an uncommon balance of thickness and energy. Awfully hedonistic and easy to taste for a youthfully tight wine with outstanding inner-mouth floral lift. The substantial tannins arrive late, allowing the wine's almost medicinal berry and red licorice flavor to expand and build on the aftertaste.
