Score 89/100 · Drink 2024-2029, Erin Brooks, Wine Advocate, Sep 2024

The 2018 Mataro Gonsalves is a new wine from Ridge that comes from own-rooted, head-trained, dry-farmed vines planted in 1888 in Contra Costa County. Medium ruby-purple in color, it’s scented of blackcurrant, damp earth, milk chocolate, woodsmoke and leather. The medium-bodied palate has some raisiny, pruney flavors. It has a soft, supple texture, satisfying, juicy acidity and an easygoing finish.
