Score 92/100 · Drink 1999-2019, Robert Parker, Aug 1999

This wine is exceptionally powerful, muscular, and concentrated, with a certain sternness, but impressive potential. It is not ready for consumption. The 1993 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a dark plum/garnet-colored effort offering a multi-dimensional bouquet of Asian spice, soy, cedar, mushrooms, and ripe plum/cherry/blackberry fruit. Dense and full-bodied, with highly-extracted flavors, considerable body, and a sweet, tannic but balanced finish, it is very approachable and large-scaled. This appears to be a sumptuous Brunello that can be cellared for two decades. Importer: Empson, USA, Alexandria, VA; tel. (703) 684-0900
