I have been critical of the red wines from Silverado, which often taste frightfully austere with sharp levels of acidity. I was troubled by the extremely lean, painful, sharp personality of the 1994 Cabernet Sauvignon Limited Reserve. An austere wine, with high acidity, a disappointing medium ruby color, and minty, underripe red currant flavors, it has an astringent personality. To me, it is an inexplicable Cabernet Sauvignon from a vintage that has probably produced more profound Cabernets than any to date. Tel. (707) 257-1770; fax (707) 257-1538
