Score 94/100 · Drink 2018-2029, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Jul 2015

(14.6% alcohol): Good full, bright deep red. Sweet aromas of smoke, mocha, graphite, licorice and violet, with a sexy element of yellow flowers emerging with air. Plush, seamless and silky-sweet but still quite young, showing a restrained sweetness to its flavors of pepper, chocolate and dried flowers. Finishes with dusty, sweet, perfectly integrated tannins and lovely slow-building length. Superb, and destined for a long life in bottle.

(14.6% alcohol): Full bright, deep red. Sweet aromas of mocha, smoke, graphite, licorice and violet, with an element of yellow flowers emerging with air. Plush and silky-sweet but structured too, with dark berry flavors complicated by dried flowers, chocolate and pepper notes. Wonderfully seamless wine with substantial dusty, sweet tannins and a very long, slowly building finish.

(bottled in August of 2006; 14.8% alcohol; 60% new oak) Good bright ruby-red. Aromas of blackberry, blueberry, licorice and aromatic spices. Richer and seemingly riper than the young 2005, but with lovely definition to the flavors of redcurrant and sour cherry. This features a lusher, softer, sweeter middle followed by chewier and more obvious tannins that showed a firmer edge with aeration.

The 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon (includes Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Merlot in the blend) spent 20 months in barrels prior to bottling. Dark ruby/purple with a restrained but sweet nose of black currants, plums, damp earth, licorice, and white chocolate, it is an elegant, medium-bodied, opulent effort with sweet tannin and a long finish. This is a strong vintage for Forman’s Cabernet, and it should age nicely for 15 or more years. Previously recommended: 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon (90). Tel. (707) 963-0234; Fax (707) 963-5384
