Brilliant ruby. Vibrant raspberry, cherry and floral scents, along with suggestions of licorice and spicecake. Sweet and sharply focused on the palate, offering concentrated raspberry and cherry liqueur flavors that are sharpened and lifted by a core of zesty minerality. Densely packed yet lithe, delivering impressive closing thrust and a very long, smooth finish that features even tannins and resonating florality.

Blended of 68% Grenache, 17% Mourvèdre, 10% Syrah and 5% Cinsault, the 2015 Sticks and Stones has a medium garnet-purple color and is scented of kirsch, red currant jelly and dried mulberries with hints of baking spices, potpourri and dusty earth, plus a waft of lavender. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is laden with spicy red fruit preserves and earthy layers, supported by soft, velvety tannins and just enough freshness, finishing long.

As to the 2015s, the 2015 Sticks and Stones checks in as an interesting blend of Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah, and Cinsault that saw a touch of whole clusters and aging in larger format puncheons and foudres. It offers lots of baking spices, dried strawberries, black cherries, charred meats and scorched earth in a downright silky, seamless, incredibly elegant package. It has fine tannin, but this beauty just glides across the palate, has no hard edges and a great finish. It's one of those wines that grows on you with time in the glass as opposed to hitting you over the head right from the start. One of the reference point estates in Paso Robles is undeniably Matt Trevisan’s Linne Calodo. Matt created this estate in 1999 (with Justin Smith of Saxum), and today makes a bevy of brilliant wines all based on eclectic blends. These wines shine for their complexity and nuance as much as their textures and richness.
