Score 87/100 · Drink 2014-2018, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, Feb 2014

Fabiano Ciacci’s 2009 Brunello di Montalcino Campo di Marzo seems a little unhinged at first with a strong oak characteristic that seemingly rises above the dehydrated cherry and black current notes that exist at the back. These two sides of the bouquet – the wood and the fruit – lack full integration. Yet, in the mouth, the wine’s lean, streamlined performance suggests it is engineered for immediate consumption. Lacklustre mid ruby with orange rim. Hints of fruitcake and cherry on the nose, but much livelier and genuine on the palate. Good mouthful of zesty ripe flavours and gripping tannins. Enjoyable already. (WS)
