Tasting notes
The 2021 Seneschal is 86% Grenache and 14% Graciano from G2, Fulldraw, Moonsprings and Epoch's York Mountain estate site. The nose is the most complete of the Torrin lineup, with lush aromas of blackberry, black plum and coffee beans. The palate is ripe and dense, with fully fleshed-out fruit flavors lined with bracing acidity that borders on harsh. As with most of this roster, the finish is chewy and hard-edged, although it filled out more here than elsewhere in the lineup. This is notably absent of the ethanol heat I found in its neighboring wines and is thus a highlight of the range; I hope that its stiff, edgy nature can be rectified with time in the cellar.

The 2021 Seneschal pulls the taster close to the glass to take in its seductive blend of rum-soaked raisins, clove and cocoa powder, lifted by mentholated herbs. Pleasantly sweet upon entry, this races across the palate with zesty acidity as depths of mineral-inflected red and black fruits penetrate deeply. This takes on a spicy persona through the finale. Tactile and long with edgy tannins and a hint of forgivable heat, the Senescal slowly fades with bitter blackberry concentration. The Seneschal is a blend of 86% Grenache and co-fermented 14% Graciano.
