Tasting notes
The 2012 Old Master Proprietary Red, a blend of 40% Merlot and 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, displays good density, excellent ripeness, a deep purple color, but was playing it closer to the vest than most 2012s are. It’s the debut of this wine from Hudson, so I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt. It is certainly excellent. Loads of chocolaty espresso and red and black currant notes along with some licorice and underbrush are present in this medium-bodied wine. Drink it over the next 10-15 years.

What a pleasure it is to taste the 2012 Old Master, Lee Hudson's Cabernet Franc/Merlot blend. Dark, intense and muscular, the 2012 boasts serious depth and fabulous overall balance. The flavors are brooding and inward, yet there is so much going on in the glass. Black cherry jam, spices, grilled herbs and leather open up over time, but it is the wine's pure personality that really shines. What a gorgeous wine this is.
