Score 92/100 · Drink 2015-2018, Robert Parker, Oct 2015

He always has pioneered a non-malolactic, crisp, fresh Chardonnay, and the 2014 Chardonnay may be slightly riper than he normally prefers. For that reason it’s more consumer-friendly, but 100% of it is barrel fermented, there’s zero malolactic fermentation, and all of it comes from the Starr Vineyard. This wine shows fresh citrus oil, poached pear and lemon blossom in a flowery, medium-bodied, lovely and crisp, fresh, lively style. If you don’t like a lot of oak or a creamier style of Chardonnay, this one is right up your alley – and it’s impressively well put together for its stylistic orientation.

Ric Forman's 2014 Chardonnay is a real stunner. A bit riper than it usually is, the 2014 possesses superb richness and intensity, but tapered with the vibrant, blocked-malo style that Forman pioneered in Napa Valley. The 2014 is a wine of push and pull that engages all the senses with superb textural balance and tons of nuance. Lemon oil, orchard fruit, almonds and dried flowers open up, but above all else the 2014 is a wine of feel. The balance here is just unreal.
