Tasting notes
(45% mourvedre, 30% syrah and 25% grenache) Deep ruby-red. Good red-ruby color. Aromas of cherry liqueur, licorice and tree bark. Fat and pliant, with terrific depth and sweetness of dark berry and violet flavor. This round, seamless, lush wine has an almost confectionery character and terrific breadth. Finishes with broad, dusty tannins and impressive length. I suspect this is higher than the 14.8% alcohol printed on the label.

The brilliant 2004 High Road (45% Mourvedre, 30% Syrah, and 25% Grenache) emerges from a true grand cru site, the James Berry Vineyard. Aromas of flowers, spice, black cherry jam, licorice, and other black fruits soar from the glass of this ripe, medium to full-bodied, multi-layered, well-textured, supple effort with an explosively fruity, rich finish. Drink this beauty over the next 5-7 years. Tel. (805) 238-3000
