Inky ruby. A heady bouquet evokes boysenberry, cherry liqueur, potpourri and smoky Indian spices, plus a bright mineral topnote. Shows very good clarity and vivacity in the mouth, offering juicy dark berry and lavender pastille flavors that gain weight with air. Spreads out on the long, sweet finish, which features supple tannins and an echo of candied flowers.

A new cuvee that Stephan created for his wife (Pour Elle is French of For Her), the 2013 Pour Elle is a cofermented blend of 72% Syrah, 23% Mourvedre and the rest Viognier that was raised in 50% new French oak and 50% once used barrels. Beautiful on all counts, it has terrific notes of black and blue fruits, graphite, vanilla bean, peach pit and hints of violets on the nose. Full-bodied, fresh and still focused and structured on the palate, it has the expected density and ripeness of the estate paired with excellent overall purity and freshness. Give it a year or two and enjoy bottles through 2025.
The 2013 For Her is a new Syrah/Monastrell/Viognier blend Stephan Asseo created for his daughter. Dark blue and purple-fleshed fruit, graphite, spices and menthol flesh out in a nuanced, crystalline wine endowed with terrific energy. Viognier adds attractive floral overtones in a dark, gracious wine that is quite restrained by Paso standards, especially in this vintage. Much of that comes from the Syrah, which emerges from a cooler, hilltop parcel.

L’Aventure is one of the leading wine estates in Paso Robles, California. It was founded by Stephan Asseo and his wife Beatrice who left their native France in 1997 in search of a place to make wine without the restrictions of France’s appellation system.
