The 2022 Epoch White comes from the Catapult Vineyard (61%) and Paderewski Vineyard (39%. It's a blend of 56% Grenache Blanc, 39% Viognier and 5% Roussanne and matured for four months sur lies in concrete, barrels, puncheons and foudres. It has scents of baked yellow apples, honeysuckle, freshly baked bread and spicy undertones. The palate pairs expansive, savory fruit with bright, refreshing acidity, and it has a long, flavorful finish streaked with graphite. 773 cases were made.

Bright citrus, tangerine, honeyed flowers, and some chalky mineral notes all emerge from the 2022 Epoch White, a crisp, medium-bodied, vibrant white based on 56% Grenache Blanc, 39% Viognier, and the rest Roussanne. Aged in a combination of concrete, foudre, and French oak barrels and puncheons, it's one of those whites that plays in the racy, refreshing end of the spectrum yet still brings texture, richness, and length. It's beautifully done. Epoch continues to pull heavily from their estate Paderewski Vineyard, but they’re also releasing new cuvées from their York Mountain estate as those vines come online. I expect this trend to continue. Looking at the wines reviewed here, I was able to taste all their 2020s now from bottle, and they’ve clearly produced some of the top wines in this challenging vintage. If there’s any smoke in these wines, I was unable to find it, and they have remarkable purity in their aromatics and ripe, polished tannins. I was also able to go through the 2021s with winemaker Jordan Fiorentini, and there are some legit genius wines in here that are as good as anything out there. I’d wager these 2021s are some of the finest wines produced from this estate, and I can’t wait to try them again from bottle next year.
