A southern Rhône like blend of 40% Grenache, 30% Syrah, 20% Mourvedre, 5% Counoise, and 5% Cinsault, the 2009 The Ditch Digger was aged almost all in one-year-old puncheons. Spicy, meaty, and beautifully complex, with a savory, licorice infused array of aromas on the nose, this hits the palate with a medium to full-bodied, soft texture, sweet fruit, and a broad, chewy finish. Upfront and approachable now, this outstanding blend should continue to impress for 6-7 years, if not longer.

(40% grenache, 30% syrah, 20% mourvedre and 5% each of cinsault and counoise): Bright violet color. Aromas of blueberry, rose and licorice, plus a suggestion of mocha. Suave and sweet on the palate, with powerful flavors of black and blue fruits and bitter chocolate. Shows very good clarity on the finish, which features youthfully chewy tannins and lingering sweetness. This needs some bottle age.
