Leading off the 2020 reds from bottle, the 2020 Sensibility has savory black cherry, leather, peppery herb, and sandalwood notes to go with a medium to full-bodied, round, supple, beautifully textured style on the palate. It's a terrific 2020 with tons to love. The blend is 79% Grenache and 21% Syrah, all from the Paderewski Vineyard, that spent 17 months in neutral barrels. Epoch continues to pull heavily from their estate Paderewski Vineyard, but they’re also releasing new cuvées from their York Mountain estate as those vines come online. I expect this trend to continue. Looking at the wines reviewed here, I was able to taste all their 2020s now from bottle, and they’ve clearly produced some of the top wines in this challenging vintage. If there’s any smoke in these wines, I was unable to find it, and they have remarkable purity in their aromatics and ripe, polished tannins. I was also able to go through the 2021s with winemaker Jordan Fiorentini, and there are some legit genius wines in here that are as good as anything out there. I’d wager these 2021s are some of the finest wines produced from this estate, and I can’t wait to try them again from bottle next year.

The 2020 Sensibility, a blend of 79% Grenache and 21% Syrah, is gorgeous with violet and lavender inflections offset by hints of sour citrus and confectionary spice. This is round and soothing on the palate, with masses of blue-tinged fruit and brisk acidity to balance. This finishes staining and long with a sour twang and dusty tannins.

The 2020 Sensibility was harvested September 15-28 and is a blend of 79% Grenache and 21% Syrah. Matured for 17 months in neutral oak, it has a medium ruby-purple color and scents of cherry pie, burnt orange peel, tobacco leaves and garrigue. The full-bodied palate is slightly chewy and savory, with a concentrated core of fruit and a long, floral finish. 487 cases were made.
