Tasting notes
Site-typical cassis and grapefruit on the nose turn luscious on a buoyant, glossy, subtly creamy palate. The finish takes a slightly confectionary turn, with candied grapefruit peel and cassis being joined by glazed pineapple and mint that manage to offer welcome tingling brightness and cooling. The finish is superbly sustained, its sweetness entirely supportive, but for now at least it misses quite the dazzling mineral display of the corresponding Kabinett or the sheer complexity of the Hofberg Spätlese.

The 2018 Piesporter Goldtröpfchen Riesling Spätlese is from a single terrace in the Laychen parcel that was picked earlier than the dry Goldtröpfchen. It was vinified in stainless steel and opens with a clear, piquant and flinty nose. This is a gorgeously lush, fresh, pure, crystalline, piquant and persistently salty Goldtröpfchen with a long, stimulating finish. It's lean, sharp as a knife and moderate in alcohol, and the sweetness is well absorbed. It was picked at 89° Oechsle, which leads to a fine, highly stimulating, crunchy Spätlese. Bottled in March 2019, tasted in April 2019.
