The 2019 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru, which comes from gnarly old centurion vines, has a harmonious, classically-styled bouquet at first, but after 10 minutes it turns volte-face, and the fruit bursts forward and budges the terroir expression out of the limelight (to my chagrin), flirting with a bit of VA. The palate is medium-bodied, with a pastille-like purity, tart redcurrant and cranberry fruit, notable linearity and impressive mineralité toward the finish. There is real intellect here —a superb Grand Cru, though it just loses some delineation with time. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

One of the highlights of the range, the 2019 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru (Domaine Louis Jadot) mingles aromas of sweet red berries with hints of raw cocoa, spices, licorice, loamy soil and truffles. Medium to full-bodied, deep and multidimensional, it's velvety and concentrated, with considerable depth and mid-palate amplitude despite its elegant, seamless profile.

The 2019 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru has a perfumed bouquet of raspberry coulis , wild strawberry and crushed limestone aromas and a little singed leather in the background;  there is fine complexity and focus here. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins, soy-tinged red fruit and a slightly conservative, restrained finish. More cohesive than the Charmes-Chambertin, it doesn’t quite  convey the complexity of the Clos-de-Bèze, yet it should still age with style.
