Tasting notes
Coming from a great site in Paso Robles, the 2019 Syrah G2 Vineyard reveals a dense purple hue to go with a thrilling bouquet of darker berry fruits, chocolate, ground pepper, and violets, with some background chalky minerality. It's full-bodied, has flawless balance, sweet tannins, and a great finish. This singular, exotic, hedonistic beauty is just about as good as it gets. Drink bottles any time over the coming 10-15 years. This was another brilliant lineup from Jim Binns. The 2019s here are easily the finest I’ve ever tasted, and the 2020s don’t appear to be far behind, although they bring a touch more oomph compared to the powerful, yet elegant 2019s.

Jim Binns, proprietor at Andremily, notes that this Paso Robles-designated 2019 Syrah G2 Vineyard will be the only iteration made, as he continues to focus his portfolio on estate fruit and fruit purchased from vineyards in Santa Barbara County. It is blended with 12% Mourvèdre and was made with 55% whole clusters. It was matured for around 21 months in 60% new French barriques and 600-liter demi-muids and 40% used barriques. Opaque ruby-purple in color, it has gorgeous aromas of boysenberry and blackberry jam, loamy earth, aniseed, dried violets, salami and coffee beans, with savory undertones that emerge as it spends time in the glass. The full-bodied palate offers wave after wave of floral fruits supported by loads of grainy tannins and juicy bursts of acidity, and it has a very long, fragrant finish. Around 200 cases and a few magnums were made. The G2 will be sold as part of a three-bottle box set ($330), and the magnums will be delivered in a custom single-magnum box. This was bottled on August 7, 2021, and tasted on May 25, 2022.
The 2019 Syrah G2 Vineyard is fabulous. Inky and explosive, the 2019 captures all the natural attributes of Paso Robles in the way it marries power with brightness. Black fruit, lavender, spice, menthol and gravel infuse the 2019 with tons of nuance. This is a gorgeous wine trom Jim Binns and Andremily, one of the very tinest I have ever tasted here. Sadly, the G2 is a one and done, as Binns has, understandably, chosen to focus on his new estate vineyard. Even so, there is no denying G2 is an ideal site tor this style. What a wine! (AG)
