2018 Marsannay

The 2018 Marsannay opens in the glass with notes of spiced plums, cherries and dark chocolate. Medium to full-bodied, layered and fleshy, with powdery tannins and a lively, charming profile, this has turned out nicely and will offer a broad drinking window.

The 2018 Marsannay Village, a blend of several parcels, is high-toned on the nose of blueberry and black cherries; touches of India ink and incense evolve in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied and grippy, with dense tannins, a grainy texture, flavors of black cherries and black currant fruit and a lightly spiced finish. This does not quite reach my expectations from barrel.

The 2018 Marsannay Village is limpid ruby in color. The very pure bouquet features scents of raspberry preserve and touches of cassis. The palate is well defined with grippy but surprisingly fine tannins. Good tension and energy here, and a hint of blood orange that enlivens the finish. Recommended.
