A soft and silky red with plums, lemon rind and hints of fresh herb. Medium-bodied, easy and refined with creamy tannins. Shows complexity and finesse for the vintage. Drink now.

Healthy mid ruby. A pretty nose of sweet cherry fruit with a touch of cream. Marasca cherry on the palate, but the lack of depth becomes abundantly clear on the rather dull finish. (WS)

The Ruffino 2014 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Greppone Mazzi is a low key expression of Sangiovese from Montalcino, Tuscany. This mid-weight wine offers accessible aromas of sour cherry, redcurrant and plum. The wine is balanced and fresh, but I can't say that its complexity is any greater than your standard Rosso di Montalcino from a reputable producer and trouble-free vintage. I would expect this wine to flesh out further with a bit more bottle age; however, overall I suggest a near or medium-term drinking window.
