Tasting notes
Score 92/100 · Drink 2014-2024, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Aug 2011

The 2009 Chablis Montée de Tonnerre captures the exuberance of the year, but without reaching the level of intensity found in the Cuvée Massale. Layers of ripe fruit build towards the enveloping finish. The wine turns powerful and incisive on the mid-palate, revealing plenty of structure to balance some of the more overt elements. This is a rare 2009 that needs another year or two in bottle.

The 2009 Chablis Montee de Tonnerre captures the exuberance of the year, but without reaching the level of intensity found in the Cuvee Massale. Layers of ripe fruit build towards the enveloping finish. The wine turns powerful and incisive on the mid-palate, revealing plenty of structure to balance some of the more overt elements. This is a rare 2009 that needs another year or two in bottle. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024. Servin began harvesting the 2009s on September 20th. The wines were mostly aged in steel, with the exception of the Cuvee Massale, Les Preuses, Bougros and Les Clos, which saw some oak, as described above. I tasted all of the 2009s from bottle except the Preuses and Clos, which were still in steel. The 2009s are quite rich and need a fair bit of aeration to show at their best. I tasted the 2010s from steel and/or cask, with the exception of the Vaillons, Montee de Tonnerre and Les Forets, which were in bottle. Importer: Weygandt-Metzler, Unionville, PA; tel. High-pitched aromas and flavors of powdered stone and lemon zest. Rich and densely packed, with an impression of sucrosite leavened by strong acidity. Finishes with superb persistence. Offers a combination of richness and minerality that's a lot harder to find in 2009 than in 2008.
