Tasting notes
The 2021 Forster Ungeheuer Riesling GG is deep, pure and tonic on the remarkably intense, saline/mineral and lemon-scented as well as spicy nose. Round, intense and juicy on the palate, with fine, saline acidity, this is a full-bodied, mouth-filling and powerful, tightly structured, persistently salivating and promising Ungeheuer with fine phenolic grip and a long, aromatic and stimulating finish. It's powerful and complex but not alcoholic. 12.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in July 2024.

The 2021 Riesling Forster Ungeheuer Grosses Gewächs is still closed, giving almost nothing away on the nose. It was made in both new and used tonneau , used Doppelstück and a small tank of stainless steel. Tellingly, oak only comes across texturally as slight creaminess. The palate is taut and tight, with a beautifully serene, linear, luminous streak of acidity. Very concentrated, yet not in the least heavy. This is a svelte personality with tons of substance and depth that is pure, bright, buffered lemon. The 2021 is so long and precise, and it is not about fruit but luminosity and linearity. (Bone-dry)
