Tasting notes
Starting this small retrospective, from a beautiful single vineyard in the northern part of Gevrey-Chambertin, the 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Champeaux has a medium-bodied, elegant, incredibly graceful style that carries perfumed red fruits as well as spice, incense, and floral nuances. The tannins here are brilliant as well. Most of the 2018s from Bernstein need bottle age, but this has some up-front appeal and is undoubtedly the one to drink while you wait on the Grand Crus.

The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Champeaux 1er Cru is a rich, heady wine. Succulent dark cherry, plum, espresso, mint and licorice give the 2018 a decidedly exotic character to play off its soft curves and voluptuous personality. A few years in bottle should help the baby fat melt away. The ripeness of the year is very much present.
