Tasting notes
**Note: from vines of 15 to 50 years of age** A wonderfully airy and exotic nose that is decidedly more elegant features spiced plum, licorice and violet aromas that highlight the supple, forward and mouth coating flavors that are very Vosne in style and character. This is stylish and classy with a seductive velvety finish and this is without question the finest example of Suchots that I have ever seen from the domaine.

Deep, bright red. Sexy aromas and flavors of bitter cherry, redcurrant, minerals, cocoa powder and flowers. Lush and sweet, with a texture of liquid velvet. Boasts wonderful subtle depth and explosive inner-mouth perfume. A wine of great class and finesse, but also has the strength for a brilliant evolution in bottle. This stains the palate with perfume in a way that just about no pinot made outside Burgundy can imitate.
Just assembled and in consequence a bit disturbed by sulfur in its finish, the 2005 Vosne-Romanee Les Suchots offers smoky, gamey, floral and black-fruited aromas, a rich, darkly-hued palate of blackberry, beet root, bitter chocolate and licorice, and fine-grained but substantial tannic structure. Jean-Pierre de Smet – who managed this estate since its 1987 purchase by the French insurance group AXA – has just turned over the reins to his young technical director Olivier Leriche. Practices here have been certified as biodynamic now for two years. The 2005s were all fermented with whole clusters. Bright ruby-red. Pungent, high-pitched aromas of musky black cherry, cocoa powder, coffee and brown spices. A highly concentrated wine that combines subtle sweetness with superb inner-mouth energy. Mineral and floral notes add inner-mouth aromatic character. Offers intensity and thickness without weight. Finishes long and scented. Superb for this cuvee-hardly surprising, as this section of Vosne-Romanee is a sweet spot in 2005. The estate pulled out a portion of these vines in 2000 and replanted them in 2003.
