Bright red-ruby. Superripe aromas of blackberry, crushed cassis, bitter chocolate, violet and licorice. Densely packed but energetic and light on its feet, with its fruit-driven flavors of blackberry and blueberry communicating an impression of medicinal reserve. Very well-judged extraction here, showing little in the way of dryness. Has the stuffing to support its serious tannins. Finishes with excellent length.

The 2013 Nuits Saint Georges Damodes 1er Cru was more reduced on the nose compared to the other crus when I tasted it, although there appears to be plenty of ripe red and black fruit present. The palate is sweet and ripe on the entry with supple, quite corpulent tannins that lend this fine weight and volume. There is a pleasant savory note emerging toward the finish and I can envisage this becoming a punter-friendly wine once bottled. There is lots to like here.
