The 2007 Morey-Saint-Denis Clos des Monts Luisants Vieilles Vignes 1er Cru is reasonably deep in hue, considering its age. The nose does not really do it for me: a bit musty with vanilla pod and dried honey, lacking real mineralité and bite like the 2014. The palate is balanced but slightly oxidized, very nutty, with a flor-tinged finish. I would be cautious approaching bottles of this.

Light and tight but very deep and savoury. The nose is very sweet and almond powder. Tad sour. Very solid. Very unlike most white burgundiess. Much less sweet on the finish. Quite different from most. (JR)
For the first time ever this cuvée was vinified without sulphur dioxide and Laurent Ponsot professed himself surprised by how easy the vinification, especially the early onset of malolactic fermentation, was. Ancient Aligoté vines yield an exotic nose with notes of quince and nuts – very attractive aromatically but still extremely solid on the palate. Confident, devil-may-care wine with a distinctly savoury finish. There's nothing remotely sweet about this wine – it's bone dry, and 14% alcohol apparently, having been picked, like all Ponsot 2007s, very late as Ponsot waited for phenolic ripeness. Pretty impressive persistence. (JR)
About the producer
Domaine Ponsot is one of the most well-known estates in the Côte de Nuits, famed for owning three of the original four hectares of the Clos de la Roche Grand Cru. The legendary domaine also produces another nine Grand Cru cuvées.
