A balsamic note on the nose, fig and violets as well. With time, it became very spiced, almost biltong-like on the nose. The acidity is wonderful here and drives the wine, cutting through the textured and plump, dense core of dark fruits, fig, blackberry and white pepper. So vibrant, expressive and alive. Such depth as well, with a granitic grip and stony note on the wonderfully zippy, very long finish. One of Chile's finest Syrahs. (AC)

Their flagship 2013 Syrah is selected from small parts of the vineyard that have almost pure granite and deliver more subtle tannins that are round and harmonious, without any edges but with grip. This is not produced every year, and for example, there will not be a 2016. The wine is fermented with full clusters and matured in 225-liter oak barrels for a long time (18 to 20 months), and it is kept in bottle for a couple of years before it's released. It feels extremely young, and the sample from magnum is even tighter, evolving at a very slow pace, but the nose is developed, with classical cool-climate Syrah aromas. 2,972 bottles were filled in December 2014.

The 2013 Syrah Matetic was sourced from coastal granite soils in San Antonio. Aged in oak barrels, this originally rich and ripe wine has evolved to display chocolate and sponge cake aromas, with chutney-like notes and a hint of raisin. Light and lean on the palate, the serious and clingy palate lingers long with a thyme-balsamic final note. A well-evolved red, when compared to the modern Matetic style, the 2013 seems to be overripe.
