Chile

Chile’s reputation was built on Carménère and Bordeaux-inspired blends, but today its varied climate produces much more. You’ll find stunning Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from its cooler reaches, as well as Sauvignon Blanc and juicy reds from old-vine Pais.

About the wines of Chile

The Spanish planted vines in this narrow slice of South America in the 1500s but it wasn’t until the 1990s that the Chilean wine industry hit its stride. In the past two decades, it has started to realise its potential to make truly fine wines: there is a growing sense of confidence among its winemakers and there’s a shift in emphasis from using fancy gadgets in the winery to caring for the vineyards and soil.
