Barthod's 2009 Chambolle-Musigny Les Fuées is utterly impeccable from start to finish. It possesses tons of inner sweetness in a finessed, gracious style that is immensely appealing. A last burst of exotic red fruit frames the finish. The Fuées is flat-out striking.

Barthod and her husband Louis Boillot told me they moved up their harvest date by four days in 2009 because the fruit was ripening quickly. That turns out to have been a very wise choice. The Barthod 2009s have wonderful energy to match the radiance of the year. Readers can’t go wrong with any of these superb 2009s Importer: Rosenthal Wine Merchant, Pine Plains, NY; tel. Bright red. The reticent red raspberry aroma shows a slightly liqueur-like quality. Very ripe and sweet on the palate, with just enough integrated acidity to provide freshness and energy to the youthfully imploded flavors of red fruits, crushed stone and spicy oak. Finishes firm and long, with a hint of resiny oak and dusty tannins. Nicely showcases the sweet fruit of the vintage, but this will need at least five or six years in the cellar.
