The 2023 Gevrey-Chambertin Très Vieilles Vignes is lovely, wafting from the glass with notes of dark berries, orange zest, spices and rose petals, followed by a medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy palate that's rich and creamy, the vintage expressing this bottling's tendency toward structure as simply greater depth and weight of fruit.

Vines aged between 80 and 100 years. 70% whole clusters, 25% new oak. Cask sample. Pale ruby. Crunchy red-cherry and strawberry fruit, with some quite feisty structure on the finish. There is good concentration with fresh, zesty acidity. (MH)

The 2023 Gevrey-Chambertin Très Vieilles Vignes is a blend of three different parcels between 80 and 100 years old from three terroirs. This has a very floral bouquet with wilted rose petal infusing the vivacious red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with a smooth texture, the removal of the pedicels lending a silkiness that I don't think you would obtain otherwise. Lightly spiced toward the harmonious finish, this is one of Mortet's more sensual offerings in 2023.
