Drink 0-0, Neal Martin, Nov 2022

The 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet La Romanée 1er Cru is quite rich on the nose with peach, orange pith, mango and light petrolly scents. It feels a bit botrytised and deteriorates/oxidizes with aeration. The palate is well balanced with a waxy-textured opening. Fine depth, tangerine and lime upfront. The bruised apple note suggests this is a faulty bottle. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 white tasting.

Aromas of pear, crisp cantaloupe melon, white flowers and mint introduce the 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Romanée, a medium to full-bodied, ample and precise wine with an elegantly textural attack, fine depth at the core, lively acids and a saline finish. Again, this will be a touch more accessible young than its 2017 counterpart.
