Tasting notes
With certified organic fruit from one of the most celebrated sites in the appellation, the Brezza 2020 Barolo Cannubi shows pretty intensity and focus. It offers aromas of iris root, lilac and wild blueberry. Indeed, it is quite floral in character, with violets over a fine texture. You really get a very pretty and elegant wine in this bottle. This is a production of 9,309 bottles plus large formats.

Barolo. Certified organic by CCPB. Just mid ruby. Closed and brooding on the nose with only hints of red fruit. Fresh, succulent acidity and lightly fragrant fruit. Elegant palate weight. Lots of sandpapery tannins on the finish, but the fruit prevails. Still needs to come out of its shell a little. (WS)
The 2020 Barolo Cannubi is aromatic with notes of dusty earth, dried strawberries, and dried roses. Although it’s a little shut down right now, it’s medium-bodied, with zesty acidity and fine tannins that build on the modest finish. Drink it over the next couple of years.
The 2020 Barolo Cannubi is austere, clenched and unyielding, with imposing tannins that are dominant at this stage. Perhaps time will help to some degree. The 2020 is a challenge to taste today, but it does not show the awkwardness of the straight Barolo or Castellero.
