Tasting notes
(these mostly 40-year-old vines were picked last in 2016--on October 8--with slightly lower acidity than most of the rest; the malo finished early): Healthy medium red. Very complex, floral aromas of black cherry, blackberry and licorice; like virtually all of these 2016s, this conveys lovely flavor purity. Fine-grained and sexy in the mouth, with purple fruit flavors given punch by high-altitude calcaire lift. Finishes very long and pure, with suave tannins and an impression of full phenolic ripeness.

The 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Goulots was not picked until 8 October, six days after the penultimate picking. There is some reduction on the nose but there is plenty of fruit behind it. The palate is sweet and candied with kirsch, fig and blood orange, the richness here offset by good acidity. Looking for a more exotic Gevrey? Then come here.
Very little whole bunch. Like Gevrey La Perrière, this vineyard was also once an old quarry. Late picked, on 8 October. Very small climat. 'Yes there was rain but we often pick in the rain. My best vintage, 2010, was in the rain'. Pale crimson. Pungent. Racy and delicate but with great juiciness. Long and nervy. (JR)
