Tasting notes
The 2017 T.H. Rarities Garnacha-Cariñena-Monastrell is from a much warmer and drier year and is a blend of 65% Garnacha, 30% Cariñena and 5% Monastrell—slightly higher in Cariñena, a grape that takes heat better than Garnacha. It had a fermentation with indigenous yeasts and an élevage of 10 months in barriques separately and then a further 10 months in oak foudres once blended. This wine is quite different from the 2016, and the years were very different as well; 2017 was a warmer year, and the wine shows riper and is also a little more rustic, perhaps more marked by the Cariñena. The palate reveals abundant, slightly grainy tannins and a chalky texture. It finishes dry and long. 6,700 bottles were filled in March 2019.
